A HUGE SUCCESS!

After the success of our pilot Bootcamp in summer 2018, Mercy Mission Canada ran a Leadership Bootcamp on the topic of conflict resolution on November 9, 2019. The event was also held at the KPMG offices in the heart of downtown Toronto.

The objective of the workshop was to learn effective techniques for negotiation and managing disputes at home or workplace; to gain practical strategies for resilience and to improve team morale and productivity.

We partnered with experts like Iman Ibrahim, Asim Qurayshi and Imam Yasin Dwyer to bring attendees high-quality practical training on conflict resolution. The sessions were divided as follows:

Session 1: Leadership and Conflict Resolution (Iman Ibrahim)

  • understand life purpose and core values
  • identify your strengths
  • understand conflict, human identity needs, and the basic conflict resolution process
  • understand conflict management styles
  • prepare for difficult conversations
  • take home practical strategies for resilience

Session 2: Mediation in Dispute Resolution – Finding win-win solutions to conflicts (Asim Qurayshi)

  • identify essential qualities of a competent mediator
  • understand the role of mediation in dispute resolution
  • distinguish between typical position-based bargaining and Interest-based Negotiation
  • utilize practical elements of Interest-Based Mediation and Principled Negotiation
  • develop win-win solutions to conflicts and disputes

Session 3: Ethics of Disagreement in Islamic Tradition (Yasin Dwyer)

  • understand the spiritual dimensions of conflict resolution
  • how to apply traditional Islamically centred strategies for managing disagreement and conflict

Many organizations sent their members to attend this training including: Mercy Mission Canada, Being ME, Nisa Helpline, National Zakat Foundation, CCMW, ISNA Canada, AlMaghrib institute, and Al Qalam Academy.

The experience can best be summarized by this testimonial from one of the attendees:

“The leadership Bootcamp on conflict resolution was a great compilation of theory and practice. The workshop equipped us with tools that we could easily apply in both our professional and personal lives. Learning these concepts in the light of the Quran and sunnah made them so much more relevant. I highly suggest taking these courses with people you interact with the most – your colleagues, your friends or your family. Great job team Mercy Mission! “
